Sheffield Precision Medical Ltd are looking for a General factory apprentice to complete a Level 3 Machining technician apprenticeship. The apprentice will spend between 1-3 months in each section learning skills before moving to the next. Every month the apprentice will have catch-up meeting with the technical team to monitor/direct their progress. With the catch-up meeting we will be able to learn through the course of time, a) where the apprentice excels and fits in and b) what position(s) are right for the apprentice and the company moving forward.

During the apprenticeship the apprentice will learn the following skills:

  • CNC Milling (3, 4 & 5 Axis)
  • Turning
  • Inspection
  • Finishing
  • Potentially spending time learning CNC Grinding, CNC Sliding head lathes and Wire EDM, performance permitting

Role & responsibilities

  • Read Drawings
  • Inspect own work
  • Produce machined components to tight tolerances
  • Complete work to designated deadlines
  • Create NC programmes from engineering drawings
  • Safe working within the section
  • Good housekeeping in the area of operation
  • Maintain quality of work and adhere to work processes
  • Achieve the production schedule
  • Minimise machine downtime
  • Effective flow of work in and out of section
  • Adhere to requirements of the company’s QA policies
  • Ad-hoc tasks as required by the needs of the company

Things to consider:

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Qualification Requirements:

Advanced Apprenticeships entry requirements

You will need both of the following:

  • GCSE English language C or 4 or above
  • GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.

Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
