Description:

As a Degree Apprentice -R&D Engineer in our team you will play a central part in securing our position as a leading global supplier of tools. The department works with everything from hand tools to CNC machine tools, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), laser scanners, scanning electron microscopes and the use of equipment of this type plays an important role in the development of new products, results of which are used for verification of new product solutions and product applications.  Working at all times with an appropriate level of supervision and training, your main duties may include:

  • Preparing and executing variety of product performance tests and metrology assessments of cutting tools – specifying and ordering test tools and materials and providing the project development team with the outcome of the assessment.  Programming and operating CNC machines to execute a test. 
  • Be an active part of the development team, creating product specifications, working with CAD systems and so support the development of products.

This work is performed primarily using the state of the art, computerized equipment and software but also to some extent with more traditional hand tools.  Example assessments, surface roughness, hole size, straightness, circularity…

  • Analysis, documentation and presentation of test/analysis results.
  • Development of new measurement techniques as required by our Development Engineers.
  • Quality control of equipment and methods.
  • Documentation and reporting of analysis and test data

Criteria Requirments:

A minimum of two A-Levels at grade B or above, including a mathematical based subject and a science, technology, engineering or an additional mathematics related subkct; an Engineering BTEC level 3 with 120 credits at distinction and merit level; or equivalent qualifications such as Cambridge Technicals.

Plus fie GCSEs at grades 4-9, including mathematics, English and a science, technology or engineering related subject.

Applicants are also required to pass an assessment at the AMRC Training Centre before being offered a place on an apprenticeship.
