The chosen candidate will study towards a Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering (Machining) Apprenticeship

During your apprenticeship you will be trained in all disciplines of machining, including; Milling Turning along with general hand fitting skills.

Apprentice Machinist. Duties may include, but shall not be limited to:

  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialised or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances.


Criteria Requirments:

Qualifications Required 

The chosen candidate must have 5 GCSE's or equivalent at Grade C or above, or grade 4-9 under the new education grade system effective from 2016/2017.  Must include Maths and English.
