Description:

During your 3 years apprenticeship you will learn and be able to complete the following:

  • Able to read engineering drawings.
  • Work on own initiative.
  • Ability to operate manual Vertical Borers.
  • Ability to operate manual Lathes.
  • Use measuring equipment
  • Ability to operate CNC Machines

 

Overall Purpose

To safely set up machines. Using best practise work to customers’ instructions. Inspect components before and after machining and maintain accurate identification against route cards. Maintain good housekeeping of work areas.

 

Key Tasks

  • In accordance with best practise, set up machines.
  • Work accurately to customer requirements
  • Inspect and check machined components
  • Keep workstation within the parameters of 5S
  • Where possible work on two machines in tandem

 

Key areas for Decision Making

  • Without supervision ensure production of quality machined parts.
  • Safe use of machinery and all tolerances and customer instructions are adhered to.
  • Maximise efficient use of machinery.
  • Appropriate preparation on commencement of machining.
  • As appropriate involve Machine Shop Manager

 

Any other duties as may reasonably be required:


Criteria Requirments:

Qualifications Required  

The chosen candidate must have 5 GCSE's or equivalent at Grade C or above, or grade 4-9 under the new education grade system effective from 2016/2017.  Must include Maths and English.
