Description:

A one day training course that provides a comprehensive overview of the equipment and techniques used for sample preparation, optical and SEM examination. There is a strong focus on structural materials from nuclear applications and on the Post-Irradiation Examination of fuel elements.

The course aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the principles and practical applications of optical and scanning electron microscopy in the nuclear sector. Delegates will learn how to extract and prepare samples for metallographic examination and will gain an insight into the capabilities and limitations of optical microscopy and SEM.


Who Should Attend?

This course has been designed primarily for operators and users of the PIE microscopy facilities on the Sellafield site. However it will also be of value to managerial, operational and technical staff and students with an interest in the microstructural evolution of fuel, cladding and structural materials in civil and defence applications.
